Sept.24 Update: Sunday Night in Inverness is POSTPONED
At the time of writing, we’re not yet through the storm, but it’s clear the impact and damages have been significant for many communities. We’ve therefore made another hard decision and will postpone our final festival event, Sunday Night in Inverness.
As all our artists would be travelling some distance to take part in this event, we don’t want to ask them (or our audience) to drive through uncertain and potentially unsafe road conditions (and at this time, state of emergency/stay at home orders are in place in Victoria County and the CBRM). We’re sorry to delay an event we’d all looked truly forward to, but we think it’s best to let everyone focus for now on cleanup and recovery.
And we’ll postpone Sunday Night in Inverness a little longer and announce a new date and revised lineup soon, at a time when more of our authors and audience will be able to safely join us. We can’t wait to see you then and meantime wish everyone safe recovery from the storm.
Warmly,
Rebecca Silver Slayter, on behalf of the Cabot Trail Writers Festival Society
Update: Cancellation of Friday, Saturday & Sunday morning and afternoon events
Hello festival friends,
It is with great regret that I share the following news, on behalf of the Cabot Trail Writers Festival Society.
In light of the severe weather forecast for the weekend, with Hurricane Fiona tracking directly towards Cape Breton at this time, we need to put the safety and well-being of our audience and authors first. Therefore I’m afraid we cannot proceed with the festival as planned, and so sadly, we’re cancelling our Friday Night Reading Series and all events scheduled for Saturday and for Sunday morning and afternoon.
We hope to go ahead with at least some of the programming we had planned for later on Sunday, but will provide an update as soon as we have a plan in place, and note that it will of course be weather dependent and subject to short-notice change depending on how things evolve.
After two years of cancellations and difficult decisions, it is especially painful to miss the opportunity to gather with our audience for what we know would have been a very beautiful weekend of words and stories and inspiration. We are deeply sorry for the disappointment to our authors and our audience; we feel it too, keenly.
Our next efforts will be to explore how we might adapt some of our plans or invent new ones to create at least some of the wonderful literary encounters we’d all been looking forward to. We will share news as soon as we have plans in place.
We thank everyone for your support of the festival and for your patience with this unfortunate change of plans. Please keep safe and well through this weekend’s weather. And we very much hope to see you at another festival event before long.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Silver Slayter, on behalf of the Cabot Trail Writers Festival Society
