Book Fair and Café
We are hosting a mini Book Fair during our festival. At the Fair, you will find local authors selling their books directly to you. Take some time to visit, find out how they created their works, how they got them published, what inspired them, what kept them going, what their next project is about. And pick up some great reads!
The Book Fair takes place on Saturday 2 October, from 1:00 to 5:00, in Memorial Hall, downstairs at St Andrew's United Church, North River Bridge, Cape Breton.
Admission is free, and you don't have to attend the festival to enjoy the Fair. The Book Fair and the Café are open to all, all afternoon.
Café
While you're here,
don't miss the chance to sample some timely desserts to tide you
over until evening. The community is hosting a café in the
same space, selling tea, coffee, and sweet treats. What a great
way to relax with friends after a busy day at the festival, or even
a busy day enjoying the fall weather!
Highlights
Yes, as a matter of fact, even our special events have special events!
Two things have happened in our little neighbourhood lately that are significant to people who just naturally like books. We thought it was a good idea to celebrate them at our festival.
Sue Miller—Just Published
Our friend and neighbour Sue McKay Miller has just had her first short story published in a brand new anthology—so new, in fact, that Airborne (Third Person Press 2010) launches officially on October 6. We are delighted to present Sue's first public reading at our Book Fair. Join us at the Book Fair at 4:00 on Saturday to hear excerpts from the science fiction tale Is There Anybody Out There?
Finally! Our New Bookmobile
The new Cape Breton Regional Library Bookmobile will visit us during the Fair; you'll spot it parked outside, and you really can't miss it. It's been a long time coming, but this is a fabulously improved travelling library. If you haven't seen such a thing, you must visit. You'll be amazed at what you can do with a bus and some books. If you're a local, check out the great selection of local authors and quirky films. And consider a new library card; they come in new colours to match the new bus, you know...
